Green design advisor and mentor for Enterprise Green Communities certification for 36-unit affordable housing project. Organized and led team workshop to identify Green Communities priorities. Emphasis on energy and resource efficiency, indoor air quality, durable materials and practicality due to budget constraints and site location.

 

 

1316 Governor Nichols StRoad Home Rental Property Tenant Manual, New Orleans, LA

With Louisiana’s Road Home Small Rental Property Program and Enterprise Gulf Coast, developed an informative green guide for use by both owners and tenants. The guide contains sections on how to save energy and water, maintain a healthy house, recycling, lawn care, and local resources for green living.

TIIH retreatThe Institute for Integrative Health

TIIH provides an environment for innovative thinking on health and healthcare, fosters collaborations, and facilitates the testing and implementation of novel solutions. We led a retreat and co-authored a white paper as first steps to defining their new home, a healing place that teaches and inspires fundamental shifts in health care.

 

GroupGreen Rowhouse Renovation Template, Baltimore, MD 

With funding from MD Department of Natural Resources, consultant to two East Baltimore Community Development Corporations to develop green guidelines for affordable rowhouse renovation. Emphasis is on energy and resource efficiency, healthy indoor environment, and community sustainability. Budget for typical rowhouse construction: $50,000. Original template published 2001.

In 2010, conducted an Enterprise Green Communities integrated design charrette to listen to and learn from the experiences of local affordable housing partners, community development corporations and builders in Baltimore, based on renovating Baltimore’s stock of aging rowhouses. Deliverables included a customized Green Communities template tailored to the rowhouse’s unique issues and needs.

Design Guide_horizEast Baltimore Development, Inc., Baltimore, MD

Developed a Green Standard for rowhouse renovation which includes energy efficiency, healthy indoor environment, and on-site renewable energy. Training contractor and trades in best construction practices, proper air sealing, and waste recycling. Scope of work included oversight and technical assistance during construction.

 

Masonville CoveMasonville Environmental Education Center, Baltimore, MD

Green design advisor to design-build project for a near-net-zero-energy nature center in southeast Baltimore. Role included guiding an integrated project team to research and consider alternative strategies for minimizing the environmental impact of the building, while providing usable and durable spaces for learning and exploration.

 

RCPS_greenRoland Park Country School Athletic Center, Baltimore, MD

Green building advisor to owner on new athletic complex. Assisted with project team selection, represented owner in project team meetings, and helped translate technical details of LEED Rating System. Advised on innovative projects to achieve LEED Innovation credits, including curriculum tie-ins and public education about efficient and eco-friendly building strategies.

 

BCBC green housingBrooklyn / Curtis Bay Green Affordable Housing, Baltimore, MD

Green building advisor to development team (a Community Development Corporation and a for-profit developer). Assisted writing RFP to solicit design/build teams, organized a training session on green affordable housing for the responding teams, and assisted in team selection.

In partnership with Sage Energy and Lorax Partnerships, we conducted a complete Greenhouse Gas Inventory Assessment that included emissions from electricity, heating, commuting and air travel. The subsequent Climate Action Plan was crafted in collaboration with staff, faculty and students and identified goals, actions, and interim targets leading to climate neutrality based on ACUPCC, Howard County Government, and other State and regional initiatives.
